Klezmex (arr.)

Music of Sally Greenaway

Klezmex, composed by Stefano Bertozzi for his ensemble Banda Olifante (Italy) is a joyous fusion of Klezmer, Mexican and Jazz music styles. Banda Olifante is known for their high-energy performances which feature an eclectic mix of instruments from across the globe. Their music draws on a wide range of musical styles, including Klezmer, Balkan, Gypsy, Argentinian Tango and Mexican music, fusing these styles together.

Their blending of these diverse musical traditions in a way that is both respectful of the original styles and innovative, with a focus on infectious dancing rhythms, catchy melodies, and joyful spirit is exactly what I have tried to honour in this arrangement of Klezmex for Big Band.

The arrangement was originally released in 2013, and revised in 2021 for full big band with or without saxophone doublings.
