At The Start of Day
Big Band / Large Jazz Ensemble / Jazz Trio: Piano, Bass, Drums

This is a contemporary jazz big band piece with a Piazolla-esque atmosphere. It features the lead trombone and alto saxophone in the opening A sections, which explode into an uplifting and passionate B section. The middle of the piece features a piano solo (fully written in the score but could equally be improvised to good effect).

Dig This Mallow
Big Band

Awards: Finalist, Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra Composition Contest 2013.

This fun big band piece is a cross between a swung version of a New Orleans Feel and a standard swing feel. It utilises all the cool techniques used from the swing era, like shakes, plunger mutes and trombone slides! Solos are open - over a blues progression. This is a crowd pleaser chart and a bit of fun for the band.

Trumpet 1, Tenor Saxes and Trombone 1 have optional lower notes if players struggle with the extreme upper register. Solo section features Tenor 1 and Guitar (or piano).
